Veterans of the Vietnam War have to be proud of the way the men and women of the Armed Forces are being looked upon today by the American public.
You have to think that maybe the disgraceful way our Vietnam vets were treated has caused an apology and a rebirth of patriotism to the Armed Forces even as they may not support the war.
In an Oct. ’09 Gallup poll in a question as to which Service is the most prestigious the Marine Corps is rated almost twice as high as its closest rival.
Key Findings in the poll are as follows:
Gallup Panel Military Perceptions Study Oct-Nov 2009
Marines have made gains in being perceived as prestigious
Air Force has made gains in being perceived as most important
to national defense
Army is seen as branch that needs to be built up the most, but
has seen some decline in percent who would prefer to join it
All branches have seen an increase in the percent who would
recommend them to a child or grandchild, but Air Force is still
#1, followed by Navy
There is near-unanimous agreement that political leaders are not
paying enough attention to the needs of Veterans

This is very encouraging for the future of our nation when we may have to depend more and more on the public support of our Armed Forces.

Unlike our WWII vets, Vietnam and Korean War vets came together and said “we are not going to let those who follow in our footsteps be treated as we were when we returned from war.” I believe its a very real credit to the Vietnam and Korean War veterans that American citizens are finally appreciating the service of its warriors. A young man or woman gives up a lot, and sometimes all, so that his countrymen can go about their business as usual.
