AL QAEDA LONE WOLVES

by H. Thomas Hayden on February 10, 2010

If anyone thinks the Christmas Day skivvies bomber was a “lone wolf” he needs to get out more. The Nigerian was the end product of an entire organization’s efforts from recruitment to training to bomb making to logistics support. Clearly NOT the actions of someone acting by themselves!

Where did he get the highly technical bomb? Where did he get the reported $2,000 for the airfare?A number of political pundits and so called terrorist experts are claiming the U.S. needs to be more concerned with a “lone wolf” terrorist than any others.

The final analysis of the Ft. Hood, TX, shooter is still out.The Army was aware that over the past few years Hassan had been emailing Anwar al-Awlaki, a Muslim cleric who exalted terrorists claiming to be good Muslims had “perverted thier religion.” Hassan was raising money for Hamas. He had met with some of the 9/11 hijackers and was associated with known extremist groups. When al-Awlaki left the United States, Hassan stayed in touch

Lone wolves are extremely rare.

The U.S. needs to get over its naivety in dealing with terrorists. The only way we will be able to prevent a serious incident in the future is to hone our foreign and domestic intelligence skills. An ounce of prevention is still worth a pound of cure.
