The Somali militant group Hizbul Islam seized a pirate home base in Haradhere. They claimed that they would rid the area from pirates.
Hizbul Islam planned to impose stringent Shari Law where free enterprise includes alcohol, prostitution, drugs (khat), etc.
Pirates most recently hijacked a ship carrying a poisonous chemical used in antifreeze off the northern tip of Somalia, far north of Haradhere, and took the 19 Chinese sailors on board hostage, officials said. The Singaporean-flagged Golden Blessing was seized inside the internationally recommended transit corridor in the Gulf of Aden that is patrolled by the anti-piracy naval coalition, said a spokesman for the European Union’s anti-piracy force. The ship was reported to be on its way from Saudi Arabia to India. The 14,445-ton chemical tanker was carrying a cargo of glycol ethylene when it was captured approximately 60 miles (95 kilometers) off the northern Somali coast.
It has been reported that the pirates bought off the Islamic extremist and moved north of Mogadishu. The pirates now pay the militants to stay away from their strongholds.
It seems that the power of money has a higher priority than Shari Law.
