Too often we see the “political correctness” (PC) jumping to conclusions like the female police officer in Fort Hood who was given credit for shooting the Islamic Army major at Ft. Hood when it turned out to be someone else. Then there was the case of the female Army soldier who was captured in Iraq and was given erroneous credit for saving herself and others when she had never fired a shot.
PC is as much a handicap to good order and discipline as racial prejudice.
The U.S. military is going through troubling times with the difficulties in Iraq and Afghanistan, the almost daily negative press, the budget difficulties, etc. All this and more makes it very hard to keep up morale of the troops in the battle zones.
Yes, we’re pulling out of Iraq and Afghan is becoming an unpopular war, but we have to support the troops.
Partisan political bickering on military strategy, political PC to redesign the military, the need for new equipment and much more do not make things easy for anyone.
Support the troops. Let them know we’re in for the long haul.
