Wall Street Journal, August 9, 2010 “Karzai Slams ‘Foreign Advisers’” by Yaroslav Trofimov and Maria Abi-Habib said that the Afghan leader seeks a ban on private security firms, escalating tensions with
U.S.
Karzai called for a ban on the private security companies that protect many Western installations, in a speech that ratchets up recent tensions with the U.S. over two American-backed anti corruption agencies.
The Afghan leader’s speech came after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton phoned Mr. Karzai to press him to live up to his anticorruption commitments, warning that his attempts to weaken two U.S.-mentored anti-graft agencies could endanger the chances of congressional approval for billions of dollars in aid to Afghanistan.
We see wide spread corruption, a stolen election for president, removal of strong officers who stand up to him, appointment of incompetent cronies to key positions, the list goes on and on.
Karzai is on the wrong track and something has to change – him or us.
