GUEST COMMENT: CONGRESSMEN ARE CRYING IN THEIR BEER

by H. Thomas Hayden on August 13, 2010

Rep. Rob Wittman (R), Virgina, , wrote in USA Today: “The announcement by Defense Secretary Robert Gates to make cuts at the Defense Department, specifically the decision to eliminate the Joint Forces Command, is shortsighted, devoid of strategic decision-making and could harm national security.

Guest Comments by Col. G. I. Wilson, USMC (Ret):

“OK, then if the cuts are shortsighted then that means Rob Wittman, who must be farsighted wants to enhance the fat, Congressional cholesterol, and the Pentagon bogus-bonus-bloat perhaps having 13 Admirals per ship copiously coupled to a concordant corporate horn of plenty structure of civilians (with embellished pay grades of SES-Plump-Pluser) for each Navy ship, HQS, major command, and any staff of 2 or more in indirect support so no one has held account or responsible for doing anything….right or wrong….no time wasted fixing accountability which clearly is a great efficiency tool. Bet he (Wittman) will have some defense industry donors making a low pass on his freezer….cold hard cash for re-election bid ?

We are doomed for Congress on both sides of the aisle and of all ilk’s are about doing the right thing; the right thing for their careers, the right thing for their perk resource pool, the right thing that benefits only them the most, and the right thing for their special interest lobbyists hanging out at the kitchen freezer. We need to vote them ALL out, but that would be considered shortsighted. Too bad there is not a block on the ballot that just says GONE (none of the above), regardless of party affiliation/affliction. Got to love these pain meds I am on as I read this….pain killers give me such insight into all the shortsightedness. But who gives a wit?   S/f  GI”

You could hear the complaints all the way from Norfolk to the Washington D.C., as Virginia politicians of both parties realized whose constituents would be affected by Gates’s plans.

Many thanks to Col Wilson for his guest comment.
