HUSBAND AND WIFE IN THE ARMED FORCES

by H. Thomas Hayden on August 24, 2010

While reading an article about a husband and wife who have been married almost since their first enlistment in the Marine Corps, I came across a startling statistic – 82% of marriages begun in first enlistments have failed. This is according to Cpl David Rogers, 9th Marine Corps District, from a 2010 presentation at the Western Recruiting Region Family Readiness Officer Conference.

Unbelievable.

The story of Sgt Victor Perez and Sgt Kara Perez is most unusual. They now have a son, Roman, and are on their second enlistment.

Victor and Kara plan to start their own business when they complete this enlistment. They both say they have had to help each other in many ways.

When you think of all the hardships all our members of the Armed Forces have to suffer with many deployments to Iraq and/or Afghanistan, it’s hard to imagine how many marriages can last.

It seems that the secret is that it takes two to make it work and here is a great story of two who are making it work.

It was hard to let this story pass without sharing it with our readers.
