The Administration’s National Security Strategy is unsustainable. The U.S. national security strategy is generally: (1) defend the homeland, (2) forward presence to engage adversaries and assist allies, (3) defeat terrorist, and (4) promote democracy. All this can be done only with strong national power.

There are only three significant sources of national power:  political, economic and military.  No nation can maintain super power status for long without all three and we’re teetering on all fronts.

Our Congress is mired in socialist programs that many oppose but the Democrats want to sustain their base and the Republicans have no viable alternatives.

The stock market roller coaster ride has no improvement in sight. The European economies are falling after the Wall Street failures and the unbelievable expensive bail outs.

The Korean peninsula is on alert for major war but the U.S. is mired in two wars with no outright winning strategy in either.

The U.S. is over committed on all fronts and there is no end in sight.

Why isn’t this a major news story on our so called main street news media?

Now that the Health Care Bill has moved off the front burner we can only hope that Washington will now turn its attention to foreign policy issue that are on the verge of derailing what little peace and tranquility seemed to be on the horizon a couple of years ago.

Here are my foreign affairs and national security issues that need more attention with our Washington leadership:

-          Afghanistan & Pakistan: While troop increases in Afghanistan and winding down the U.S. presence in Iraq seems to be the main focus of U.S. foreign policy, the support of Pakistan is the crucial element in any successful conclusion of our involvement in Afghanistan.

-          Iran: Any efforts toward so called “establishing crippling sanctions” against Iran are doomed to failure. We now have Intelligence that Iran is training the Taliban in Iran. This problem can only get worse.

-          Latin America. It seems that no in Washington is watching our back door. Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia and Cuba have joined in an alliance against the U.S. Brazil and Argentina is not far from joining the four socialist/communist partners.

-          Russia: Russia seems to be on a roll. Following military success in Georgia and political success in the Ukraine; and, Belarus, Azerbaijan & Kazakhstan being drawn back into the Russian orbit, who will be next.

-          Israel: With all the current squabbling over the new Israeli buildings on the East Bank many are losing sight of a potential third Palestinian intifadah against Israel and a potential air strike against Iranian nuclear facilities. Both have serious consequences for the U.S.

-          China: The problems of copy write infringements, Google clashes, and export/import imbalances could lead to a trade war with China.
